June 23, 2026 – Washington, D.C.—The Commercial Space Federation (CSF) is pleased to welcome Sophia Space, a company advancing orbital computing infrastructure for the next generation of space-based data processing, as a new associate member.

Sophia Space is pioneering orbital computing infrastructure that transforms space into a distributed compute layer for the global economy. Through its TILE (Thermal-Integrated LEO Edge) technology, Sophia Space brings high-performance computing directly into orbit, enabling real-time data processing, AI acceleration, machine learning inference, and edge computing in the space environment. By allowing satellites, defense systems, remote sensing platforms, and commercial space stations to process data where it is generated, Sophia Space helps reduce latency, minimize downlink requirements, enhance mission autonomy, and support the next generation of intelligent, autonomous, and connected space systems.
Sophia Space recently announced a $7 million SAFE financing round, bringing its total funding to $22 million, and selected Apex to provide the satellite platform for a planned 2027 demonstration mission of its TILE (Thermal-Integrated LEO Edge) orbital computing technology. These milestones reflect growing momentum behind the company’s vision to enable real-time, AI-powered data processing in orbit.

“As the commercial space industry continues to evolve, orbital computing will play a critical role in enabling the next generation of space-based applications and infrastructure. At Sophia Space, we’re building the foundation for computing in orbit, and we recognize that realizing this vision requires close collaboration across industry and government. Joining the Commercial Space Federation allows us to contribute to the policy discussions and industry initiatives that will help accelerate innovation, expand commercial opportunities, and ensure the United States remains a leader in the emerging orbital economy.”

About CSF
Founded in 2006, the Commercial Space Federation (CSF) and its members are laying the foundation for democratizing access to outer space for scientists, students, civilians, and businesses. All while working towards the goal of expanding the U.S. Commercial Space Economy. Through the promotion of technological innovation, CSF and its diverse membership are guiding the bolstering of U.S. leadership in aerospace and inspiring America’s next generation of engineers and explorers. CSF also serves as the commercial space industry’s primary advocate with the U.S. Congress and the Administration, helping inform the development and implementation of policy priorities. By engaging with congressional players, CSF is able to provide recommendations on commercial space issues that will impact the commercial space industry in the short and long term.
